Company News

We wanted to thank everyone who attended and visited us at the 2015 World of Concrete show. It was great to see a lot of our customers face to face and reveal some really exciting new products. The feedback on our new SLE-100 Epoxy and Aspartic U-80 top coat was outstanding. These products will fill some gaps that our customers may have had in their product offering, giving them even more solutions to the many different inquiries they come across daily. As you can see, our live demonstrations of the Polycuramine Metallic System went over great, with more and more people wanting to see the final results!!

Project of the Month:
Polycuramine Metallic over Wood Substrate

Garage Force of La Crosse, WI recently installed a Polycuramine Metallic system over a wood substrate with awesome results. Due to the porosity of the substrate, Polyurea 350 tinted black was used as the primer versus our standard method of Eco-Prime. Polyurea 350 is able to be applied at a thicker spread rate than Eco-Prime, helping reduce soak in of the Polycuramine coat. The seams of the wood were left alone on purpose, and they break up the floor beautifully. After the metallic system was installed and allowed to cure overnight, Poly-1 HD was applied as the topcoat with Ultra Durability Plus. The results are a one of a kind floor, that was easy to install and able to return to full service in just 2 days. Excellent job Garage Force!

Monthly Product Highlight: SLE-100

Citadel is proud to introduce our newest innovation in our vast product line, SLE-100. SLE-100 is a 100% solids Epoxy, primer/basecoat that has exceptional adhesion properties to concrete substrates. Due to its unique chemistry, this coating exhibits great flexibility, working times and self-leveling properties while offering great chemical resistance as well. Low odor makes it a great choice for interior applications. What makes SLE-100 stand out from every other 100% Solids epoxy, is that is virtually odorless, has a 60 minute pot life, and is VOC free. It can be applied direct to concrete in a single self-leveling coat, or as a primer/basecoat for broadcast systems. SLE-100 is sold clear in 5 gallon kits, or can be pre-tinted tan or gray. It can be applied from 90sqft/gallon (18mils) up to 400sqft/gallon (4mils). SLE-100 dries to tack- free state in 10-12 hours, and 48 hour drive on time. Maximum re-coat window is 72 hours.

Aspartic U-80

CFFS Aspartic U-80T is a new two-component, 80% solids; aliphatic polyaspartic coating that was developed for UV stable floor topcoats, chemical resistance and corrosion control. A 1 hour pot life provides reliable and repeatable performance in a wide range of applications. Aspartic U-80T exhibits excellent UV stability, making it an excellent choice for both interior and exterior applications. Aspartic U- 80T is packaged in 3 or 15 gallon kits. (2A: 1B)

Upcoming Events: Get Certified! - March 24-25

Become a certified Citadel Products installer by attending a training seminar. Citadel training sessions are typically held on a monthly to bi-monthly basis depending on the number of interested parties. We always welcome new installers but even if you have been to a previous session, consider a refresher course because we are constantly working to improve installation techniques. Who knows, you may just learn a new technique that could save you time and money! Please let us know if you are interested in attending a training seminar, we would love the opportunity to showcase our current products and also any new products and installation techniques!! We have a tentative date for the next class set for March 23th and 24th. Click here for registration information

Tech Tip: Bubbles in the Coating?

Bubbles or craters from bubbles can appear in the surface of a coating as small as the size of a pinhead or as large as an inch in diameter. They can appear randomly throughout the coated floor area or in honeycomb clusters. In most cases, the bubbles are caused by one of the following forms of air entrapment:

o OUTGASSING: Bubbles may appear in the coating surface after a coating is applied over a porous concrete surface. This condition is created when the coating begins to exotherm during curing. As the coating increases in temperature, cooler entrapped air in the substrate expands and rises into the coating, creating bubbles.

o AIR FLOW ACROSS THE COATING: Excessive air movement from open doorways, from HVAC units, fans etc.

o ELEVATED TEMPERATURES: When air, surface, and/or material temperatures are elevated (extremely high) during the installation process (and prior to initial cure) the material may cure too quickly (skimming over) and entrapping air below the surface.

o IMPROPER MIXING: When components are mixed too aggressively (such as by using a drill with a speed of over 600 RPM), unwanted air can be forced into the liquids as they are being mixed.

o MOISTURE VAPOR: 'Bubbles' or blisters that appear on the surface of a cured coating can also be caused by MVT (moisture vapor transmission) or "hydrostatic pressure" passing through the pores of the substrate and into the coating.

o APPLICATION TECHNIQUE: It is extremely important to utilize the proper installation techniques and purchase the correct application tools when applying a floor or wall coating system.
