Project of the Month: DIY's Season 5 of The Vanilla Ice Project
This month's featured project comes from Zachary C. Coletti, of The Garage Enhancement Company, LLC. We'll let him describe the project in his own words.
For the Season 5 Vanilla Ice Project Garage Floor, we used Citadel Flooring products.
We used abrasive methods to remove the multi layers of paint and profile the underlying concrete
substrate. We then patched the divots and cracks using a fast setting cementitious material.
For the design, Rob (aka, Vanilla Ice) wanted a two striped "swoosh" pattern flowing through the middle part of the floor. First we taped out the middle stripes. We then applied the Eco prime primer in white to give our silver and gold colors some pop. Once the primer was tacky, we applied the pigmented Polycuramine coating using a ¼" notched squeegee and back rolled, trying to be careful not to spill over into the main floor areas. We made the decision to apply the stripes first as we didn't want to walk on the main field area and possibly contaminate it attempting to apply the stripes afterwards. Once the stripes were set, but still tacky, we removed the masking tape to reveal the clean lines to which the red would adjoin. We masked the stripes with tape and paper. Once done, we applied Eco prime in black as it would add depth to the red and eliminate the risk of the floor looking pink. Again, once the primer was tacky, we applied the pigmented Polycuramine using our handy ¼" squeegee and back rolled with a 3/8" microfiber roller. We watched as the Polycuramine flowed and leveled out nicely. Again, we removed the taped areas to reveal sharp lines with little bleed through. The next morning, after Rob V. added black pin striping to the floor and after minor repairs and touchups (as there always are), we applied one coat of the Poly 1HD mixed with Citadel's Ultra Durability Plus Additive.
The final result, with regard to the many challenges we faced, was a beautiful floor that boasts both
creativity and durability and will show as well on TV as it does in person.
I really enjoyed the ease of application of Citadel's products. Other than that, another thing that struck
me was the incredibly tenacious bond that the Eco prime product demonstrated. Not only did it seem to stick really well to the slab. The other product that we used, Polycuramine, really demonstrated attractive results as it relaxed and self-leveled creating a beautifully smooth and glossy surface.
Monthly Product Highlight: CFFS Polyflex-93
CFFS POLYFLEX-93 is a two component, 100% solids, VOC Compliant, self-leveling flexible control joint filler. This product cures rapidly and consistently at temperatures ranging from 0°-100°F. With a tack-free time of less than 5 minutes, Polyflex-93 reduces downtime and allows repaired areas to be reopened to vehicle or foot traffic in one hour. Excellent elastomeric properties create flexibility while a tenacious bond to the concrete sidewalls of the joints leads to long lasting results and performance. Polyflex-93 is easily coated over using a wide variety of CFFS products or can be used as stand-alone joint filler for concrete polishing or preventative maintenance. Typical application methods include using a dual cartridge caulk gun or high-flow dual component pump system. High productivity rates can be reached when combined with the right type of delivery system. Feel free to contact CFFS for more information on applications, product limitations and pump options.
Upcoming Events: Get Certified!
Become a certified Citadel Products installer by attending a training seminar. Citadel training sessions are
typically held on a monthly to bi-monthly basis depending on the number of interested parties. We
always welcome new installers but even if you have been to a previous session, consider a refresher
course because we are constantly working to improve installation techniques. Who knows, you may just
learn a new technique that could save you time and money! Please let us know if you are interested in
attending a training seminar, we would love the opportunity to showcase our current products and also
any new products and installation techniques!!

Tech Tip:
Care and Maintenance
Severe spillage or routine major contamination requires special cleaning protocols. The following procedures for PROBLEM AREAS may also be applied in these instances.
• CONTAMINATION: Contaminated floors may require the use of a mechanical auto-scrubber or a firm bristle brush to reach the base of the texture. A strong concentrate of CFFS Eco-Clean should be used for these areas.
• GREASE: Greasy deposits are best removed using CFFS Eco-Clean but can also be spot treated with CFFS CPC Degreaser. Contact your Citadel Floor Finishing Systems Representative for specific instructions.
• TIRE MARKS: Scrub thoroughly with a stiff bristle brush using CFFS Eco-Clean or CFFS CPC Degreaser.
• STUBBORN DIRT OR STAINS: Allow the cleaner time to penetrate and break down the problem area before scrubbing and rinsing off. This will increase the effectiveness of the cleaner and provide better results.
• ALTERNATIVE CLEANERS: If using a cleaner not specified by CFFS, always cross reference the MSDS of the cleaner to the chemical resistance charts for the specific coating that was installed. Some cleaners currently available can have detrimental effects on the coating and cause premature deterioration of the installed system. Contact your Citadel Floor Finishing Systems Representative for specific instructions.
